BRI Stories | Constructors strive for clean energy in Turkish highlands

(250220) -- AKSARAY, Feb. 20, 2025 (Xinhua) -- A drone photo taken on Feb. 12, 2025 shows a view of the ground station facilities of the Tuz Lake underground natural gas storage expansion project, in Aksaray province, Trkiye. The Tuz Lake underground natural gas storage expansion project is located on the Anatolian Plateau in Aksaray Province, a central province in Trkiye, with cold and snowy winters and hot and dry summers. Chinese constructors have been working here for many years, building the natural gas storage expansion project in an effort to boost Trkiye's green and low-carbon transformation.

The core part of the expansion project, which includes design, procurement and construction of ground station facilities, is undertaken by China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China National Machinery Industry Corporation.

The core part of the expansion project has achieved mechanical completion recently and is preparing for trial operation. After the project is completed, it will greatly improve Trkiye's natural gas transportation and storage capacity, ease local energy shortages, and provide a guarantee for Turkish clean energy supply.

As a supporter of the BRI, Trkiye signed a memorandum of understanding with China in 2015 to align with its Middle Corridor plan, connecting Trkiye and Europe to China via a Trans-Caspian transport route.

Over the years, cooperation between China and Trkiye in hydropower, photovoltaics, wind power and other fields has been continuously strengthened. The Tuz Lake underground natural gas storage expansion project jointly built by China and Trkiye is expected to achieve a win-win outcome for local economic development and environmental protection.
